4.10.2012 Mauritius: Bain Boeuf – Bel Ombre

 

Heute haben wir wieder einmal richtig ausgeschlafen und kurz nach 9 Uhr gingen wir zum Frühstück. Danach packten wir unsere Siebensachen, checkten aus uns um 11 Uhr waren wir bereit für die Weiterfahrt der Westküste entlang Richtung Süden.

This morning we took the chance to sleep in and went for breakfast shortly after 9 am. Thereafter we packed our belongings, checked out and at 11 am we were ready for departure along the west coast direction south.

Zuerst besuchten wir Odile im Restaurant Pescatore in Trou aux Biches, übergaben ihr eine Tafel Schweizer Schokolade und erhielten bei einem Kaffee weitere Tipps, was wir auf Mauritius nicht verpassen sollten... Darauf machten wir einen kurzen Spaziergang am wunderschönen Strand gleich nebenan.

First we paid a visit to Odile at the restaurant Pescatore in Trou aux Biches, brought her a bar of Swiss chocolate and received lots of hints of what not to miss on Mauritius while having coffee with her... Thereafter we took a short stroll along the beautiful beach just next door.

Der Botanische Garten in Pamplemousses stand als nächstes auf unserem Programm. Um 13 Uhr kamen wir dort an, parkierten unser Auto und fuhren mit dem Taxi zum Haupteingang... Nach einigen Metern bemerkten wir, dass ziemlich nichts beschrieben war, weder der Weg noch die Pflanzen, nicht einmal der Ausgang! An den offiziellen Führern waren wir schon vorbeigegangen, da fing ein Mann mit Krücken an uns die Pflanzen und Bäume zu erklären bis wir schliesslich den ganzen Park durchwandert hatten und uns am Ausgang befanden - natürlich erhielt er ein Trinkgeld für seine bevorstehende Operation! ; )

 

Danach fuhren wir auf der Autobahn Richtung Port Louis, der Hauptstadt, die wir eigentlich abklappern wollten... aber als wir im 1/2-stündigen Stau sahen, was uns erwartet, wollten wir nichts als raus aus dieser dreckigen Stadt! Wir fuhren auf der Autobahn Richtung Süden aber zu weit ins Landesinnere weil wir die Landstrasse der Westküste entlang verpassten - auch egal, da man eh nicht viel sieht, da alles verbaut ist! : (

The Botanic Garden of Pamplemousses was next on our programme. At 1 pm we arrived there, parked our car at the official parking and drove by taxi to the main entrance... After a few meters walking we noticed that about nothing was indicated, neither where to go, nor the plants and not even the exit! We had already passed the official guides when a man with crutches started to explain all the plants and trees and guided us through the whole park to the exit - of course he received a tip for his forthcoming operation! : )

Thereafter we took the highway to the capital Port Louis where we intended to shop around a bit... but when standing in queues for half an hour getting there, we saw what was awaiting us and we just wanted to get out of this dirty town as quick as possible! We went back on the highway direction south but much too far into the interior of the island because we misses the exit to drive along the west coast - but never mind, you don't see a lot anyhow as the whole coast is obstructed! : (

Peninsula Le Morne

Nachdem wir nichts wirklich Spannendes an der Westküste entdecken konnten, beschlossen wir die Halbinsel Le Morne ganz im Nordwesten anzupeilen. Dort hatte es nur einen schönen Golfplatz (der auf den Luftaufnahmen wesentlich besser aussah als live) und einige große Hotelanlagen... So fuhren wir weiter der Südküste entlang Richtung Osten und gelangten schlussendlich nach Bel Ombre. Es war bereits schon 18 Uhr und wurde dunkel als wir beim Hotel Tamassa LUX (www.tamassaresort.com) vorfuhren... Wir erkundigten uns nach den Preisen und auch hier wurde uns empfohlen per Internet zu buchen! Wir benutzen das WiFi des Hotels und sparten tatsächlich mit der Buchung bei booking.com einen Drittel - und das ist nicht wenig bei den Preisen hier! Wir reservierten auch gleich Golf für morgen (nicht per Internet) und bezogen dann endlich unser wunderschönes Zimmer für die kommenden 2 Nächte...

Im Dunkeln marschierten wir um die riesengrosse Anlage und setzen uns schlussendlich um 19:30 Uhr draußen ins Hauptrestaurant. Während ein Platzregen vorüberging machten wir uns ans Buffet - na ja, wir haben bisher bedeutend besser gegessen! Auf dem Rückweg ins Zimmer machten wir noch einen Abstecher in die Bar um uns einen Schlummertrunk zu genehmigen...

As we hadn’t discovered anything real interesting along the west coast, we decided to drive on to the peninsula of Le Morne, in the very north east of Mauritius. There was a nice golf course (which looked much better from the air than live) and some big resorts… That’s why we continued our journey direction east and finally reached Bel Ombre. It was already 6 pm and getting dark when we arrived at the Hotel Tamassa LUX (www.tamassaresort.com)... We informed ourselves about the prices and again we were suggested to book on the internet! We used their WiFi and indeed saved a third booking with booking.com – and that’s quite a lot with the prices here! We also reserved t-time to play golf for tomorrow (not on the internet) and finally installed ourselves in our pretty room for the next 2 nights…

In the dark we wandered around the huge resort and at 7:30 pm we finally took a table at the main restaurant. While a downpour was passing we served ourselves at the buffet – well, we had much nicer meals before! On the way to our room we passed the bar and had one for the road…
