11.10.2012 La Réunion: Cilaos – Gand Anse

An diesem Wanderort Cilaos gibt es nur bis 9 Uhr Frühstück, so waren wir bereits um 8:30 Uhr im Restaurant und unsere Überraschung war gross: Eine exzellente Auswahl mit vielen frischen Früchten - sogar Orangen konnte man pressen! Weil wir Richtung Meer schon wieder Wolken sichteten und hier im Talkessel purer Sonnenschein herrschte, beschlossen wir unser Frühstück am Pool zu verdauen...

Here in the hiking place Cilaos there is breakfast served only until 9 am, that’s why we were at the restaurant already at 8:30 am and our surprise was big: An excellent variety with lots of fresh fruits – you could even squeeze oranges! In direction of the ocean we spotted clouds and here in the hollow there was pure sunshine, so we decided to digest our breakfast at the pool…

Palm Hotel & Spa, Gand Anse

Danach packten wir, checkten aus und um 11 Uhr traten wir die Abfahrt an: Es ging die 400 Kurven wieder hinunter zurück ans Meer. 2 Stunden später erreichten wir das Palm Hotel & Spa (http://www.palm.re) in Grand Anse. Wir richteten uns in unserem Zimmer ein und ich packte alles aus für unsere 3 letzten Nächte.

Thereafter we packed our suitcases, checked out and at 11 am we hit the road: First it went back down the 400 curves towards the ocean. 2 hours later we arrived at the Palm Hotel & Spa (http://www.palm.re) in Grand Anse. We installed ourselves in our room and I unpacked my whole suitcase for our last 3 nights.

Um 15 Uhr machten wir uns auf zum Strand... da das Hotel leider nicht direkt am Meer liegt hatten wir die Wahl mit einem Golfcart dorthin geführt zu werden oder die 10 Minuten zu Fuss den steiler Weg hinabzugehen - als sportliche Typen wählten wir natürlich die letztere Variante! ; ) Es war bereits ziemlich bewölkt, aber eigentlich genau richtig um der kleinen hübschen Bucht entlang zu joggen, dachte ich mir... und genau das tat ich - 4 mal um auf meine gewohnte Laufzeit zu kommen! Danach ging ich im mit Lavasteinen abgesteckten Becken schwimmen – es war wie ein Aquarium: Lauter farbiger Fischen und Korallen! Dann war auch ich K.O. und konnte beim Tosen der Riesenwellen im warmen Sand etwas dösen!

At 3 pm we went to the beach… unfortunately the hotel isn’t situated directly at the ocean and we had the choice either to be driven there by a golf cart or take a 10 minutes’ walk down the steep hill – we as the sporty kind of people choose the latter alternative! ; ) It was already quite overcast, but indeed just right to go for a run along the little pretty bay… and that’s what I did – 4 times to get to my usual running time! Thereafter I took a swim in the natural pool which was surrounded by lava stones – it was like an aquarium: Nothing but coloured fish and corals! Then finally I was ready for a nap too and snoozed a bit in the warm sand with the sound of the huge waves!

Zum Abendessen hatten wir um 20 Uhr einen Tisch im Gourmetrestaurant des Hotels Le Makassar reserviert. Wir speisten hervorragend in einer eleganten, indonesischen Ambiente - nur musste man die Speisen auf den grossen Tellern suchen… ; )

For dinner we had reserved a table in the gourmet restaurant of the hotel Le Makassar at 8 pm. We dined in an elegant, Indonesian ambiance and the food was delicious – only that you had to look for it on the big plates… ; )

Um 11 Uhr fuhren wir los der Westküste entlang Richtung Süden. Schon bald hatten wir das schützende Riff passiert und in St Leu hohe Wellen gingen an Land – das Paradies für Surfer! In L’Etang-Salé-les-Bains säumt schwarzer, feiner Sand den Strand.

At 11 am we took the road along the west coast direction south. Soon after we had passed the protecting riff and in St Leu high waves came ashore – the paradise of surfers! In L’Etang-Salé-les-Bains the beach consists of black, fine sand.

Wir fuhren noch 5 Minuten auf der Autobahn, nahmen die Ausfahrt Richtung Cilaos und fuhren in den gleichnamigen Talkessel hinauf. Wir stiegen in einer Stunde und 400 Kurven auf 1200 m und es wurde immer sonniger! Als wir um 13 Uhr in Cilaos ankamen war die Luft etwas kühler (27 Grad Celsius), aber die Sonne brannte erbarmungslos herab. Wir machten einen Halt in einem Restaurant um uns einen Überblick zu beschaffen, was man hier so tun und sehen konnte. Wir holten in der Touristeninformation nebenan einige Karten und da gerade das Fest der Linsen gefeiert wurde, schlenderten wir kurz den Marktständen entlang. Es war nun kurz nach 14 Uhr und wir beschlossen zuerst eine Wanderung zu machen bevor es dunkel wird und danach auf Hotelsuche zu gehen. Auf dem Weg kamen wir aber am Hotel des Neiges (www.hotel-des-neiges.com) vorbei und bezogen das letzte freie Zimmer für diese Nacht! Noch besser, so konnten wir unser Gepäck und das Auto im Hotel lassen und dann gleich losmarschieren…

We drove along the highway for another 5 minutes, then took the exit Cilaos and drove up into the equally named hollow. We rose in one hour and 400 curves up to 1200 m and it got sunnier. When we arrived at Cilaos at 1 pm, the air was a bit cooler (27 centigrade) but the sun beat down on us relentlessly. We stopped at a restaurant to get an overview of what to do and see here. At the tourist office just next door we received maps and because the village was celebrating the feast of lentils, we strolled along the market for a short while. Now it was already past 2 pm and we decided to go for a hike before it gets dark and look for a hotel thereafter. On the way we passed the Hotel des Neiges (www.hotel-des-neiges.com) and got the last vacant room for this night! Even better, like this we could leave our luggage and car at the hotel and hit the road immediately…

Kurz vor 15 Uhr marschierten wir mit der Karte in der Hand los Richtung Roche Merveilleuse, aber irgendwie verpassten wir den Wanderweg und gelangten so auf einer geteerten Strasse dorthin – schade! Wir genossen die herrliche Aussicht auf Cilaos und den ganzen Talkessel und wanderten den richtigen Wanderweg zurück nach Cilaos. 2 Stunden später sassen wir am kleinen See Mare a Joncs bei einem lokalen Süsswein und schauten der Sonne zu wie sie hinter dem Piton des Neiges (3071 m) verschwand...

Es gab keine grosse Auswahl, wo wir das Abendessen einnehmen konnten, so setzten wir uns in eines der wenigen Restaurants im Zentrum, das sich langsam füllte mit Gästen. Wir bestellten Chouchou Gratiné (ein einheimisches leckeres Gemüse: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chayote) und Poulet mit Curry und Vanille – köstlich! Übrigens herrschten am Abend tatsächlich noch einmal Alpaca-Jacken Temperaturen!!! ; )

Shortly before 3 pm we started our hike with the map in our hands direction Roche Merveilleuse, but somehow we missed the hiking trail and got there on paved streets – what a pity! We enjoyed a terrific view of Cilaos and the whole hollow and took the correct hiking path back to Cilaos. 2 hours later we sat at the little lake Mare a Joncs with a local sweet wine and watched the sun go down behind the Piton des Neiges (3071 m)…

There wasn’t a big choice of restaurants to have dinner, so we choose one of the few in the centre which was full of guests at the end. We ordered chouchou gratiné (a local delicious vegetable: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chayote) and chicken with curry and vanilla – what a treat! By the way: In the evening it was chilly enough to wear my Alpaca jacket again!!! ; )

9.10.2012 La Réunion: La Saline-les-Bains

Um 7 Uhr ging der Wecker, denn um 8:30 Uhr hatten wir einen 45-minütigen Helikopterflug um die Insel gebucht! Leider war es ziemlich bewölkt, wir machten uns trotzdem bereit und gingen kurz darauf frühstücken...

The alarm clock woke us up at 7 am as we had booked a 45 minutes helicopter flight around the island at 8:30 this morning! Unfortunately it was quite overcast, nevertheless we got ready and went for breakfast shortly after...

Um 8 Uhr trafen wir bei Corail Hélicoptères ein und eine halbe Stunde später hoben wir ab. Es war noch stets bewölkt aber je höher wir in die Berge stiegen desto klarer wurde es und wir sahen das Nebelmeer von oben! Zuerst flogen wir über die Talkessel von Mafate und Salazie mit dem 3071 m hohen Piton des Neiges, dann hinein in den Trou de Fer mit seinen Wasserfällen, danach überquerten wir die Mondlandschaft des aktiven Vulkans Piton de la Fournaise (2631 m) und zurück ging es über den Talkessel Cilaos und die Lagune (vom Riff getrennter seichter Teil des Ozeans) - das war ein wirklich fantastischer Überblick über La Réunion!

Zurück im Hotel packten wir unsere Badetasche um am Strand zu relaxen. Da es aber noch immer angenehm bewölkt war, joggte ich zuerst den langen Sandstrand entlang und ging als Abschluss im herrlich warmen, seichten Meer (Lagune) schwimmen. Danach holte ich den verpassten Schlaf am Strand dösend nach... Wie gut, dass die Sonne nicht auf uns herunterbrannte - so war es die ideale Wohltat!

At 8 am we arrived at Corail Hélicoptères and half an hour later we took off. It was still cloudy but the more we rose into the mountains the clearer it got and we could watch the sea of fog from above! First we flew over the hollows of Mafate and Salazie with Piton des Neiges of 3071 m, then we flew into the Trou de Fer with its waterfalls, thereafter we crossed the lunar landscape of the active volcano Piton de la Fournaise (2631 m) and back we went over the hollow of Cilaos and the lagoon (shallow part of the ocean separated by the riff) -this was a real fantastic overview of La Réunion!

When we got back to the hotel we packed our beach stuff and went to the beach to relax. As it was still overcast and not too hot I first went for a run along the long sandy beach and thereafter for a nice swim in the warm and shallow water (lagoon). Now it was time for me to relax and I cached up with sleep snoozing at the beach... Only too well that the sun didn't beat down on us -like that it was the ideal treat!

Als wir von Strand zurückkamen, genossen wir zuerst einmal den Jacuzzi und machten uns danach für den Ausgang bereit. Um 17 Uhr los nach Boucan Canon, wo wir etwas in den Boutiquen herum flanierten, ein herrliches Eis assen, den wunderschönen Sonnenuntergang betrachteten und uns einen Aperitif genehmigten (Liliane & Beni: Ich dachte ganz fest an euch dort!). Zum Abendessen fuhren wir nach St Gilles-les-Bains ins gleichnamige Restaurant, wo wir einen Lobster in absolut hervorragendem Ambiente verspeisten.

Coming back from the beach we first enjoyed the Jacuzzi and then got ready for the evening. At 5 pm we hit the road to Boucan Canon where we shopped around a bit, had a very nice ice-cream, watched a gorgeous sunset and had a drink. For dinner we drove to St Gilles-les-Bains to the identically named restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious lobster in an absolutely great ambiance.
